App development in a nutshell: 20% making it work, 80% making it look good.

by Reza Shirazian

It’s been awhile since there’s been an update so I thought I’ll do a quick post. I’ve been super busy working on project in5differences. In all honestly most of my time is spent on making sure the product looks good and the UI is intuitive rather than getting the functionalities up. I mean it’s  not that difficult to make things work, the project itself is not too technically challenging, however making everything look as polished as possible is taking most of my time. I actually find myself spending more time behind Photoshop and Illustrator than xcode.

Regardless, this is the most fun I’ve had in a long time. It’s not very common for me to spend weekends, programming, however I have no desire to do anything else. I will be posting impressions early next week.

As for Hafez, it’s still going strong in the app store. I thought we’ll hit the 1500 download mark in six months but three weeks later and we’ve surpassed it by a pretty solid margin. Although the overall daily downloads have been on a decline ( from 90-100 a day to 60-70 a day) I’m still surprised by how well the app has done. It was an initial step into the mobile app world and it couldn’t have performed better.

I did a shameless plug on reddit and here’s what Iranian redditors had to say about the app.

Great feedback on reddit. That’s excellent. So when do you make an Android App?
